Like every year these apples are sold at the Christmas Market in Ratingen.
I guess this is done with stickers which are applied to the apples when they are still green. So they receive less sun on the masked areas and have these little icons as soon as they are ripe.
I wonder if you can do that with Granny Smith too... ;-)
