I have seen May beetles very rarely until now, they almost vanished in intensive agriculturally used areas.
Although it was still April there were really a lot of them on the camping site, it was more an inavasion than the sensation of watching an endangered species.
Short time before sunset there were millions of them, flying against the camper, the table, our faces... You really had to keep your mouth closed ;-)
